Guild Wars 2 or Diablo III?
I was introduced to Torchlight (Diablo II clone) and I have really been loving it and it reminded me of how much quicker paced Diablo II was and just how different it was from Guild Wars. Its looking more and more that neither GW2 or D3 will be out in 2010 so my question is this:
If both Guild Wars 2 and Diablo III were released on the same day, which would you buy and play first?
At this point, I think I would probably find myself buying Diablo III first (but that could just be burnout from GW).

more interested in seeing what's going to be done with guild wars 2. but overall diablo 3 will be a more successful game not a single doubt in my mind. only time will tell though which game i'll wind up making my "main game" ya know.

As an Avid diablo 2 fan for many years. I would have to say for me it will be Diablo 3. But if there was anychance(and if I can afford both) I would attempt to put one on my desktop and one on my laptop and play at te same time on both :-p

Bloody Necromancer wannabe!
On that note, if GW2 gets Necromancers then that's what I'd buy and play first.

Well, considering how bad D2 treated me(endless hours chasing that "purple armor you need LOD to get," Cow runs, weight gain, slipping grades), D3 sounds like an easy pickup. I actually quit D2 when GW E3 for everyone event took place. I have no doubts both will be good games, but here is my real issue:Will Anet let it degenerate? D2 never had any major changes that effectively made it a different game from the one you payed for.

Have to say i haven't really been following D3 development for some time now but very focussed on GW2 development. We've known for quite some time (2008 financial report) that GW2 was scheduled for the 2011 financial year.
I would say that GW2 and Diablo 3 will launch within months of each other in my estimation, just as GW launched 5 months after WoW. It's usually very foolish for a dev to release a game at the same time as blizzard, but i suppose lotro's 1st expansion did well enough considering it launched in the same week as wrath.
I'd say alot of people will be adamant to move on to GW2 but Diablo will probably outsell it in the first 6 months.
Personally, I'll be buying GW2 on launch or pre-launch if I can

Are you serious, OP? A game where developers release patches and at least try to show they care after 10 years, or a game where they spend 5 months preparing a patch that fixed nothing?

And you can't taste the difference?
There are very few things that I will discriminate on name alone, but a Necromancer class is one of them.
That and I'm somewhat sad that the Diablo II necro won't be making a return. As a class he left a lot to be desired, but he was cool.

Oh no! they decided to call the necromancer a witch doctor, it is now completely functionally different. D:

regarding gw2, i would install it ON DAY ONE...on release day... to ensure i would get some high-yield birthday presents (or something similar). sure i'll play it but if it begins to feel anything like gw1 then i may just let it sit untouched on my harddrive and come back to it every now and then.
regarding blizzard entertainment, i have been very impressed with them. i have warcraft iii AND starcraft w/brood expansion, purchased both just before christmas '09... and lemme tell ya..... FUN!!!!!. i do pve only because the servers are virtually empty of live people. these game i have are roughly 10 years old(?).
but if i had one choice between gw2 and diablo, i would go with blizzard... i would get diablo.
oh, and starcraft 2 is coming out soon. and i am really looking forward to that one.

One of the first mmo's I played was diablo 2. I love all the blizzard games and as a current player in sc2 beta I would say don't wait for either and just buy that when it is released or sign up on battle.net for beta entry and hope you get lucky. However, I will buy both games and start with gw's 2.
The only reason is because I find that Diablo was much easier to pick up and play even though others had been playing it for years and you could be as good as other people. A lot less things to learn about the game I guess is where I am going. I would probably start with GW's 2 and find myself playing 3 more. With Guild Wars it took a lot longer to become "good" at the game and if I ended up licking GW's 2 more then D3 I wouldn't want to handicap myself against other players.

The first half of your statement is true. The second part not necessarily so. Either way my feelings are unchanged but I feel you've missed my point.
